For patients seeking deeper relaxation during their dental appointments, we offer minimal sedation with nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas. Delivered through a comfortable nosepiece, nitrous oxide is mixed with oxygen and gently inhaled throughout your procedure. This method allows you to remain fully awake and aware, yet deeply relaxed and at ease, ensuring a calm and stress-free experience.

One of the greatest benefits of nitrous oxide is its quick onset and fast recovery. Because its effects wear off almost immediately after the treatment, you’ll be able to resume your normal activities and even drive yourself home with no lingering effects. This makes nitrous oxide an ideal choice for those seeking both comfort and convenience.

Dr. Marion, Dr. Quest, and our compassionate team will carefully monitor your comfort during the procedure, ensuring you feel completely at ease. With nitrous oxide, you can relax, trust the process, and enjoy a positive, anxiety-free visit.

At your request, Dr. Marion or Dr. Quest may prescribe oral sedation to help you feel relaxed and at ease before your dental appointment. Typically, we recommend two medications for optimal comfort:

The first, Valium (diazepam), is taken the night before your visit. This fast-acting medication has a lasting effect, typically 4-12 hours, helping you unwind and feel calm in the hours leading up to your appointment. 

The second, Triazolam, is taken about an hour before your visit. It works quickly but has a shorter duration of 2-4 hours, making it the right choice to take just before your treatment.

To ensure your safety when using oral sedation, you’ll need a driver to bring you to and from your appointment, as these medications may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or lightheadedness. For your peace of mind, we’ll tailor the sedation plan to suit your needs, and some patients may only be prescribed only one of the medications. Discuss your concerns and questions with Dr. Marion or Dr. Quest to understand the options and find the best approach for your smooth and comfortable experience.

For patients undergoing longer or more complex procedures, or those seeking deeper sedation, we offer moderate intravenous (IV) sedation, also known as conscious sedation. This method provides an extra level of comfort by allowing you to relax fully while still being able to respond to Dr. Marion’s or Dr. Quest’s instructions.

During the procedure, an anesthesiologist will collaborate with Dr. Marion or Dr. Quest to administer the sedative through a needle inserted into a vein in your arm or hand. The sedative begins to work immediately, putting you at ease while the dentist numbs the treatment area and proceeds with the procedure. Most patients experience a sense of partial awareness, yet many report not remembering the procedure once it’s over.

IV sedation is an ideal solution for those who feel nervous about extended treatments or simply want a more relaxed experience.
