FAQs About Tooth-Colored Fillings

Tooth-colored fillings are typically made from moldable composite resin material, which are durable, natural-looking materials that blend smoothly with your teeth.

With proper home care and regular dental cleanings, tooth-colored fillings can last many years, maintaining both functionality and aesthetics.

Yes, they offer a more natural appearance, are less noticeable, and bond stronger to the tooth, preserving more of its natural structure. Unlike silver fillings, they also don’t expand and contract with temperature changes, which can reduce the risk of the tooth cracking over time.

Getting a tooth-colored filling is quick and comfortable, typically requiring only local anesthesia for a pain-free procedure without after effects. Our patients rave about our Comfort Menu, explore options to make your visit as enjoyable as possible.

FAQs About Crowns

We begin by removing any decay or old fillings, ensuring a strong foundation for your crown. If necessary, Dr. Marion or Dr. Quest might build the tooth up with bonding material, then shape the tooth to ensure a perfect fit. Using a digital impression scan, your crown is then custom-crafted to match your bite and tooth shape. At Marion Smile Center, we use high-quality zirconia for crowns, known for its strength, durability, and natural, tooth-like translucency.

During your first visit, we will take a scan of your mouth and teeth using our digital impression scanner and send it electronically to our dental lab. A shade will also be chosen that will beautifully match your current teeth or, if doing a full smile makeover, may be even whiter. Dr. Marion will get the surface of your tooth ready for the veneer or crown. He will remove any cavities and build the tooth up with resin bonding material if necessary for the crown. Your tooth will be cleaned, polished, and etched. He will place a temporary veneer or crown over the tooth until the final is prepared.

At your second appointment, Dr. Marion will bond the final veneer or crown to your tooth and allow it to harden in place using a special light.

Dental crowns are a versatile and essential solution for a variety of dental issues, offering both functional and aesthetic benefits. We recommend crowns to repair cracked or fractured teeth, restore old or leaking fillings, and strengthen root-canaled teeth. For teeth that are misshapen or out of alignment, crowns offer a harmonious solution. When replacing a missing tooth with a dental implant, a crown is placed on top of the implant to create a fully functional and realistic replacement tooth.

With proper care, dental crowns can last anywhere from 10 to 15 years, and sometimes even longer. Regular brushing, flossing, and routine check-ups will help ensure your crown stays in great condition for many years.

The process of getting a crown is not painful, as local anesthesia is used to numb the area. Some people may experience mild discomfort or sensitivity afterward, which usually subsides within a few days. Many of our patients love the options on our Comfort Menu, designed to help you feel relaxed and make your visit as pleasant as possible.

FAQs About Dentures and Partials

It can take a few weeks to adjust to wearing dentures or partials. While initially you may experience some mild discomfort or difficulty speaking and eating, most patients adapt quickly with practice and regular adjustments. If anything feels off to you, let us know and we’ll investigate to alleviate any discomfort.

Some patients notice slight changes in speech when first wearing dentures or partials, but with time, your tongue and mouth will adjust. Practicing speaking and reading aloud can help speed up the process.

While you may need to modify your eating habits at first, most people can enjoy a wide variety of foods with dentures or partials. Start with softer foods and gradually return to your regular diet as you become more comfortable. Don’t hesitate to call us and talk about any concerns you have about eating.

Regular dentist visits are crucial, even with dentures, to maintain oral health and ensure a proper fit. Over time, changes in your weight, jawbone, and gums can cause dentures to shift, possibly leading to looseness, discomfort or difficulty eating or speaking. During your visit, we’ll check your gums, adjust any sore spots, and clean your dentures with an ultrasonic machine to remove plaque and stains. We’ll also perform an oral cancer screening for your peace of mind. For more in depth home care instructions, please refer to our denture guide.

FAQs About Single-Visit Root Canals

If you’re experiencing severe pain while chewing or biting, persistent tooth sensitivity to hot or cold, or swelling around the gums, it could be a sign that a root canal is needed. Other indicators include pimples on the gum, a chipped or cracked tooth, or noticeable darkening of the tooth. While these symptoms may sound concerning, a root canal is a highly effective treatment to relieve pain and save your tooth, with minimal to no discomfort.

A root canal is often much less painful than most people expect. With our modern techniques, local anesthesia, and extensive experience, you’ll be comfortable throughout the procedure, and any post-procedure discomfort is easily managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. Our Comfort Menu offers additional choices to make your experience relaxing and stress-free.

We first examine the affected tooth, using digital X-rays to assess whether the pulp, otherwise known as the nerve of the tooth, is damaged or infected. The root canal procedure involves carefully removing the infected pulp, cleaning and disinfecting the root canals, and then sealing the spaces with a special filling material to prevent future infection. While some dentists may require multiple visits, we typically complete the entire procedure in just one appointment. To ensure the treated tooth remains strong and protected, a crown or filling is placed after the root canal.

A root canal is often the best way to save a tooth that would otherwise need to be extracted. It stops infection and preserves your natural tooth, which is always preferable to replacement.
