Local Charities Supported by Marion Smile Center

At Marion Smile Center, doing good in our community is a cornerstone of our mission. Each year, through our annual WHITEN FOR CHARITY campaign, we collaborate with local organizations to support impactful projects that make a real difference. From purchasing life-saving equipment for the Zelienople-Harmony Fire Department to preserving cherished landmarks like the historic Buhl House, we are committed to improving our community. Running from March 1 through June 30, this campaign donates 100% of the proceeds raised from our professional teeth whitening services to charity. Patients’ contributions are paid directly to the Smiles for Life Foundation to help underprivileged children, while local charities receive additional funds to support their important work. With the generosity of our patients and the dedication of our team, we’re creating brighter smiles and stronger, more connected communities.

2025: $2,077 donated to Butler County Humane Society in honor of long time team member, Jan Kirby

In 2025, our Whiten for Charity campaign surpassed expectations thanks to the incredible support of our patients and community. We were thrilled to contribute $8,000 toward the new butterfly benches at Zelienople Park, creating a welcoming space for families to enjoy for years to come.

With $2,077 remaining, we chose to honor the memory of our longtime team member, Jan Kirby, by donating these funds to the Butler County Humane Society. Jan was a devoted animal lover who adopted her own cat, Millie, from this shelter. This donation not only reflects her love for animals but also ensures her spirit of compassion continues to make a difference.

We are so grateful to everyone who participated in Whiten for Charity and helped us do good in such meaningful ways. Together, we not only brighten smiles but also honor the people and causes close to our hearts.

2025 & 2024: Marion Smile Center raises $16,000 to provide 3 new butterfly benches in the Zelienople Children’s Park

Celebrating the success of our 10th Annual Whiten for Charity campaign.

We are thrilled to share that our 2024 and 2025 Annual Whiten for Charity campaigns raised nearly $17,000, all thanks to your incredible support! Since 2016, Marion Smile Center has proudly donated $130,000 to charitable causes through our annual “Whiten for Charity” initiatives.

Both last year and this year, your professional teeth whitening treatments made a lasting impact on our Zelienople-Harmony community. Half of the nearly $17,000 proceeds raised over this two (2) year campaign funded the cost of fabricating three (3) new beautiful butterfly benches to be placed in the center of the Zelienople Children’s Playground. We proudly partnered with JTS Welding and Fabrication, a local business owned by James—husband of our hygienist Jessica. James handcrafted the custom benches that now grace the park.

Many years ago, Dr. Mark Marion and the Marion Smile Center team donated the seed money to help build this playground and now we get the opportunity to add a special touch. The remaining funds raised will support children in need of dental care through the Smiles for Life Foundation, bringing brighter smiles to both our community’s youth and youth from around the world.

We chose to dedicate this most recent campaign to the Children’s Playground in honor of our beloved former team member, Jan Kirby. Jan, a cherished member of the Marion Smile Center family for 20 years, was a pillar of love and care in our community. One of the three (3) new butterfly benches will have a plaque with her name. Her legacy inspires us to continue to do good in meaningful ways.

Thank you for being a part of something truly special. Together, we created brighter smiles, stronger communities, and lasting memories—one smile at a time.

In 2023, Dr. Mark Marion made a generous $1,000 donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, supporting research and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of children living with diabetes.

The connection between diabetes and poor oral health is supported by compelling research, highlighting the importance of early detection and prevention of gum disease. At Marion Smile Center, our team has embraced cutting-edge technology and testing to identify early-stage periodontal issues and protect our patients’ overall health.

The Escobar family, long-time patients and friends of our practice, faced heartbreak when their young daughter was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes. In response, they reached out to Dr. Mark Marion to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

At the family’s invitation, Dr. Marion and his wife, Kimberly, attended the 31st Annual JDRF Gala at the Westin Hotel in Pittsburgh, PA—a truly inspiring event supporting this important cause. Dr. Marion, like many healthcare providers, recognizes the strong scientific link between diabetes and oral health. Studies show that improving diabetes management enhances dental health, and conversely, good oral health positively impacts diabetes and overall systemic health.

The benefits of oral health extend even further. Many medical professionals now require dental health assessments and the treatment of any oral infections before patients undergo surgery to minimize the risk of complications. At Marion Smile Center, we proudly perform these essential evaluations and periodontal treatments, ensuring active infections are resolved to protect the entire body, including vital organs like the heart.
